Film music make concerts popular again

Increasingly, it seems that music for film is making concert-going more accessible to audiences worldwide. Themes and film scores from Hollywood Blockbusters are being heard worldwide by thousands of people who might otherswise never experience the concert experience. "I think music for film is a brilliant way of bringing in concert audiences; film music is so welcoming, as it musically re-lives the audiences experiences of their favourite film. A film score is very effective in that way", commented hand-made-music.co.uk Director Laura Callaghan, "Everyone should go to a concert at some point in their lives; it's an unforgettable experience."

Below is an article from the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal...

TUPELO - People don't just watch movies: They also hear them.

"Even before a scene begins to change or a character comes on screen, the music steers the viewer to a state of mind," said Steven Byess, musical director for Tupelo Symphony Orchestra.

Saturday's 2006-07 season opener will explore the mix of music and movies when TSO presents "A Night at the Movies II: Aspects of Love."

"One of the most accessible forms of music - especially for people who don't regularly attend concerts - is film music," Byess said. "I've always been fascinated by the collaboration between composers and directors and producers."

As the title for the program suggests, this will be TSO's second foray into the world of film soundtracks. Like a previous concert two years ago, there will be film clips, discussions about how music can impact the viewer's experience and performances of selected pieces.

Movies will include "The Philadelphia Story," "Love Story," "The Mask of Zorro," "Gone with the Wind," "Titanic," "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," "Rear Window," "Somewhere in Time" and "Pirates of the Caribbean."
